Surface Preparation Surfaces must be prepared thoroughly before commencing. Surfaces are to be sound, stable, dry and clean, free of loose foreign matter including any surface residues or existing coatings. Buildings are to be constructed to relevant building standards and manufacturer’s recommendations are to be followed for all building materials used. Suitable surfaces include:
- Masonry and concrete
- Marine ply and wet area timber sheeting
- Cement sheet and wet area plaster board
- Clay and concrete bricks
- General porous surfaces
- Existing acrylic coatings and Gripset Betta products
For non porous surfaces, smooth surfaces and non standard substrates refer to Super primer, Damp Stop primer or contact Gripset Industries.
Coverage
As a Primer
- For Gripset Betta liquid membrane applications apply product directly out of pail at coverage of 1 Litre/6–8 m². Do Not Dilute
- On very porous surfaces or surfaces with weak surface strength, e.g. aerated concrete, asbestos etc. apply 2 coats of primer
- When using as a tile or paint primer, dilute 1 part Prep Coat & Additive to 2 parts water, then brush/roll onto surface
As an Additive
- Waterproof high bonding slurry coat, mix 1 part Prep Coat & Additive to 1.5 parts of cement and brush apply 2 coats
- Water proof render/screed (0–10 mm thick), use a solution of 1 part Prep Coat & Additive to 1.5 parts water, then add to sand/cement compound
- Water proof render/screed (greater than 10 mm thick), use a solution of 1 part Prep Coat & Additive to 2.5 parts water, then add to sand/cement compound
- For a concrete mix, allow 250 mL of Prep Coat & Additive to every kilogram of cement and add water as required
- Grouts and cement based adhesives, use a solution of 1 part Prep Coat & Additive to 1 part water into grout/cement adhesive mix
When using as an admixture, Prep Coat & Additive can be used in concentrated form to achieve optimum waterproof, adhesion and strength properties. |
